Description

The St Mary’s Outreach program is an important part of our ministry. This is due to the very generous financial contributions of members of the St. Mary’s community, but more importantly to the hard work of members of the parish. As a general rule we seek outreach projects where we are called upon to contribute both money and time. Our outreach programs are both local and international.

The Outreach Committee is open to anyone who would like to participate, and meets once a month, usually after the 10 AM service.

Objectives

  • To use funding allocated by the Vestry from the Church's Budget to assist persons living in Orange County or nearby who are in need, and organizations that serve such persons.
  • To raise funds seasonally for holiday gifts and food for needy families.
  • To raise funds via Outreach Sunday and other fundraising events for specific organizations and families.
  • To encourage parishioners to become involved in specific charitable ventures and allocate funds to support such efforts.

A partial list of the projects we currently support

  • Sloatsburg Food Pantry, supporting their work with individuals and families in need of food assistance.
  • EpiscoBuild, Newburgh, contributing both finance and labor in the construction of new and renovated buildings to provide homes for low income families.
  • Helping Hands of Rockland County, providing financial assistance to their work with the homeless and making collections of food and toiletries for distribution.
  • St Margaret's Soup Kitchen, Middletown, NY.
  • The Angel Tree program providing Christmas gifts for needy families.
  • The Rural and Migrant Ministry of Orange County, which provides a day school for the children of migrant workers.
  • CARRYOU Ministry, which helps the victims of AIDS and their families in South Africa. This project is led by one of our parishioners who travels annually to South Africa to see first hand the work being done with patients and orphans.

A Pastoral Care Committee has been established which is responsible for a number of areas of parish assistance including:

  • Meals and support for people who have returned home after hospital treatment.
  • Rides to and from doctors' appointments.
  • Visits and support following bereavement.
  • Visits to homebound parishioners including a recently established Lay Eucharistic Ministry.
